Three 15: Bringing Culture to Your Doorstep
Black Country Touring is proud to be part of Three 15, a three year project that is bringing culture closer to home in Smethwick, Tipton and Wednesbury. Working with local partners and communities, we will bring performance and creativity to Smethwick’s local high streets, green spaces, schools and the Midlands Met Hospital (in their new People’s Gallery).
What is Three 15?
Three 15 is Sandwell's Place Partnership programme, funded by Arts Council England, thanks to National Lottery Players. Building on more than a decade of place-based work in the Black Country, Three 15 focuses on deepening connections between residents and our local spaces, neighbours and cultural activities.
The programme runs across three Sandwell towns, each with its own lead organisation and local venue:
Tipton — led by Creative Black Country, hosted by Black Country Housing Group
Smethwick — led by Black Country Touring, hosted by Midlands Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH)
Wednesbury — led by Multistory, hosted by Wednesbury Library
What's happening in Smethwick
As the Place Lead for Smethwick, Black Country Touring is working with the local Hive at the People’s Gallery in MMUH — a community space where patients and visitors can drop in, experience live performances and be part of an exploration of culture in relation to care and wellbeing.
Alongside the Hive, we're delivering a rolling programme of creative activity as part of our Smethwick Folk strand, bringing free events, workshops, artist residencies and performances into 3 of our local high streets in Smethwick. Smethwick Folk is an opportunity to find out what folk traditions look like in 21st century Smethwick, to seek out local mythology and celebrate the wealth and depth of storytelling in the town.
